New Medical Aid Legislation effective 01 March 2012

Conversion of Medical Aid Scheme Contribution Deductions to Medical Scheme Contribution Tax Credits.

In a nutshell this means that the tax benefit of belonging to a Medical Aid Scheme is now calculated AFTER calculating PAYE on taxable income and then applying the tax credit. We will explain a bit more and provide an example.

Medical Aid Changes Example

Joe Brown, age 37, a member of ABC Medical Aid, earns a salary of R30 000 per month. His employer pays 50% of his total medical aid contribution of R4800 on his behalf. John is married to Lisa and they have two children.
